What is sports massage?
Sports massage is a focused form of soft tissue therapy designed to prepare, maintain and recover the body around physical activity. It blends deep tissue work, myofascial release, trigger point therapy and stretching to release tight muscles, ease restrictions, and support better movement. Unlike a relaxation massage, sports massage targets the specific demands you place on your body, whether that's running, lifting, cycling, contact sport or long hours at a desk. At Warrior, our therapists work closely with our physiotherapists and osteopaths, so a sports massage can stand alone or fit into a broader rehab plan when needed.
Who We Help
Marathon runners, triathletes, cyclists, footballers, gym regulars. Sports massage helps you train consistently, recover between sessions, and avoid the overuse injuries that derail a season. We tailor each session to where you are in your training cycle.
Endurance athletes and weekend warriors
Desk professionals carrying accumulated tension
Tight necks, locked shoulders, stiff lower back from long hours on a screen. Sports massage gives you a focused release every few weeks. It will not fix a postural pattern or rehabilitate an injury, but it keeps the tension from compounding week after week.

Why We Choose Warrior
Real sports experience with UK Athletics
Our lead therapist works with UK Athletics performers, bringing that elite-sport context and standard into every session.
Inter-team support and referral network
Sports massage is integrated with physiotherapy, osteopathy and strength coaching at Warrior, so when something needs more than soft tissue work, the referral path is already in place.
Dry needling and cupping included
Sessions can include dry needling and cupping when appropriate, at no additional cost. The choice of technique is matched to your symptoms, not to a fixed protocol.
Scar tissue expertise
Particular experience working with post-injury and post-surgical scar tissue, supporting mobility, sensitivity and tissue quality through the recovery phase.
What to expect at your first session
Your first session typically runs 60 minutes, with shorter focused options available.
We start with a short conversation about your activity level, current niggles, training schedule and goals. Your therapist then assesses key areas and explains where they'll focus before getting started.
Sessions can be firm and focused, especially on chronically tight areas. We always work to a pressure you can tolerate, talking through any tender spots as we go. You'll likely feel a mix of release in the moment and lighter ease over the following 24 to 48 hours.
Bring shorts or loose kit. Towels and changing space are available. After the session we'll suggest simple post-massage care (hydration, gentle movement, when to schedule the next session).
Client Reviews
"I’ve struggled with repetitive niggles from running for a decade and Natasha Fernandes has sorted me out in a way no other physio has been able to. Her diagnostic ability is off the charts and she prescribes practical, doable, clearly-explained exercises. She is also a lovely person. You will not regret seeing her!"

"If I could give a higher rating I would! So nearly one month passed from my session with Natasha and I can finally walk with no pain! It’s incredible how I was used to walk in pain and now with her knowledge and exercises I’m able to be myself again. During my research for a physio I’ve been recommended this place and I’m so grateful for it! The level of professionalism and knowledge was unbelievable! I’m so grateful for what you did to me and will recommend this place to anyone!"

They overlap, but the framing is different. Deep tissue massage focuses on releasing chronic tension by working into deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Sports massage uses many of the same techniques, but with a clear focus on how your body is being used in training, sport or daily life, and adapts pressure, pace and focus around that. At Warrior, most of our sports massage sessions include deep tissue work where appropriate.

It depends on your activity level and goals. Active trainers often book every 2 to 4 weeks for maintenance. Endurance athletes in peak training cycle may benefit from weekly sessions, with adjusted intensity around races. Desk professionals managing chronic tension typically see good results with monthly sessions. We'll suggest a rhythm after your first appointment.

It can be firm, especially on areas of chronic tension or muscle adhesion, but it should never feel sharp or unbearable. We work within your tolerance and check in regularly. It's common to feel slightly sore for 24 to 48 hours afterwards, similar to the day after a good workout, then move much better in the days following.

Sports massage is excellent for soft tissue restrictions, training tension and recovery, but it isn't a diagnostic service. If you have a specific injury, persistent pain, or limited movement, your best first step is an assessment with one of our physiotherapists or osteopaths. They can diagnose the issue and may then recommend sports massage as part of your treatment plan.

No GP referral needed for sports massage. If you're using private health insurance, some policies cover soft tissue therapy as part of a wider treatment plan, but not all do. Check our insurance information or contact us and we'll help you confirm before you book.
